One guy is heading for the beer, the other is helping his fellow Irishman. Sgt. Crowley and Professor Gates have that heritage in common in equal measure. Each has one parent who is 100% Irish.
If you needed assistance which of the able bodied men would you rather have close? If, indeed, Gates is a long-time friend would “the one” not realize his pal might need a hand? I guess if you’re going to throw him under the very crowded undercarriage of the bus it really doesn’t make any difference.
