Sometimes it’s tough; resisting temptation that is. As my knowledge has expanded over the years, some have come to trust me to be aware of what is going on in the current scene. That would be mostly the political arena. If you have an electrical problem, don’t come to me for advice. My community of friends realize I spend many hours of each day in an effort to know the players, their attitudes, and behavior. They, like you, read what I write and appreciate that I make every effort to keep the truth uppermost on the blog..
If the writing has no integrity, why bother to read it once it becomes fiction. You might just as well listen to a democrat operative spout off. By so doing, one is often offered what might be referred to as an easy target.
I was surprised recently on a visit to a local office on business and the secretary I spoke with said to me: “I know you keep up on this sort of thing and I’d like to ask you about an email I just received.” She went on to describe a message concerning a first-class stamp which had been offered by the post office to celebrate a couple of different Islamic holidays. The writer of the email implied that this was the work of the current administration and was meant to represent an “Islamic Christmas.”
She is a very conservative person and would have happily listened to any made up response of outrage at the thought. Rather than take advantage, I confessed momentary ignorance of the matter and promised I would check it out and call her the next morning. After I left I remembered that I had seen stamps at the post office with Arabic writing and hurried home to Google it for an answer. Never disappointing, Google presented a couple of million references to my inquiry and the information I sought.
The stamp, first issued on 9-1-01 (!) was to celebrate Eid Al-Fitr and Eid Al-Adha, both three day fall holidays to honor the sacrifice by Abraham of his son and the end of the Hajj respectively. Neither of these has a fixed date due to their use of the Georgian calendar. They have nothing to do with Christmas other than the proximity of dates. In fact, the first was observed on 9/19 and the second on 11/26 in the year 2001. This continued commemoration has advanced the price and requires renewed issuance of the stamp to keep up with postal rate increases on first-class stamps.
Playing gotcha with this president is child’s play and requires no made up scenarios to support it. What ever the subject, if you wait just a little, he will provide a contradiction to a previous statement and one can lodge a legitimate beef.
Later in the day I received an email from a dear old friend with an hysterical note attached about the arrival of a “police force” in their community which was taking over with the blessing of the town board and the complicity of the sheriff. His question to me was: “what do you know about this?” Back to Google I went for a new record—32,000,000 hits! In short, what I learned was the community of Hardin, Montana had been scammed by a career criminal and bogus military man who had presented the depressed town with an opportunity to capitalize on a newly constructed and largely useless prison for their betterment.
Again, the thought of turning law enforcement over to a private agency presented many avenues for criticism. The con man, who had so many aliases it would be difficult to nail down his actual identity, had promised to use the unoccupied multi-million dollar facility, hire as many as 200 employees, and just about every thing else except a free lunch. Given the president’s thoughts of a civilian “army” trained in the military arts as a service corps, my friend saw this as the beginning of that program. In actuality, it was just a low grade Bernie Madoff doing his thing, complete with a fleet of Mercedes-Benz patrol cars and a pre-made law enforcement symbol.
The just criticism lies with the people of Hardin who were suckered in by this charlatan. It would be easy however, to somehow pin the whole affair on the president and his insane plan to organize yet one more layer of bureaucracy on an unsuspecting public.
Here is where “resisting temptation” comes in. Just because we are presented with an easy accusation of someone who richly deserves it doesn’t mean we have to take that advantage. To separate our motives and principles from those who will seize any tiny fact and falsely expand it into a talking point, we must remain scrupulously honest. In today’s miraculous world of informational overkill, it is just too easy to check out every rumor and expose the truth. This is a reputation we can live with. It’s not near as much fun today but it is far less troublesome down the road.
Like the people of Hardin we should live with the words of Ronald Reagan, “Trust, but verify.”

“...the right of the people to keep and bear arms…”

In the interest of full disclosure I have been a Life Member of the National Rifle Association for twenty-three years. Prior to that, I was an annual member of that organization for thirty years. I like guns. I like freedom. I like a functioning action with the no-nonsense sound of steel on steel operating flawlessly to engage the firing mechanism. I also enjoy the satisfaction of a well placed shot. In addition to military training I have kept my hand in and continue to shoot on my private range as often as time and ammunition shortages allow.
Amendment II of the United States Constitution reads as follows:
“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”
I would suggest that any person who has difficulty understanding those words is too ignorant to breathe let alone hold public office. For clarification, the Supreme Court of the United States has helped them by declaring the right an individual matter. As evidence of their distaste for the constitution, officials at all levels continue to attack those 27 words with a vigor born of desperation. They blanch in terror at the thought of the people being armed. Let’s take a look at some other societies who recognized the danger of having an armed population.
In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control. From 1929 to 1953 20 million dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
In 1911, Turkey established gun control. From 1915 to 1917, 1.5 million Armenians, unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated.
In 1938, Nazi Germany established gun control. From 1939 to 1945, a total of 13 million Jews, gypsies, homosexuals, and other dissenters who were unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
In 1935, China established gun control. From 1948 to 1952, 20 million political dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
In 1964, Guatemala established gun control. By 1981, 100,000 Mayan Indians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
In 1970, Uganda established gun control. From 1971 to 1979, 300,000 Christians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
In 1956, Cambodia established gun control. From 1974 to 1977, one million educated people, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
The above examples total 55,400,000 who were rounded up and exterminated during the last century. None of those people had the right to bear arms.. They are all dead.
Over a year ago, Australia passed a new law which required 640,381 firearms to be confiscated and destroyed. That program cost their government over $500,000,000 to implement or $781.25 per firearm. What was the result of this massive dis-armament program? Homicides up 3.2%; assaults up 8.6%; armed robbery up 44%; and in the state of Victoria, homicides were up 300%.
Actually, over the preceding 26 years, there had been a steady decrease in armed robbery with firearms, which has changed to an increase in the first year of the legislation, since the criminal is now assured he will meet no resistance.
Break-ins and assaults on the elderly have increased dramatically and the politicians are frantically seeking an answer to the cause. Apparently it has not occurred to them that armed criminals delight in an unarmed populace.
With these figures in mind, I would encourage you to be highly skeptical of anyone who is advancing any proposal which would limit the guarantees of our second amendment. Your biggest danger lies in two equally dangerous categories of people: politicians and criminals. Is that redundant?

Gleichschaltung

Is it just yet one more compound German word or does it have much greater significance? Actually it is both. The language is famous for jamming multiple words into one unwieldy (at least for those who are not familiar with Deutsch) monster of a word complete with implication and subtlety and a hyper-specific nature. One of these is “gleischaltung.”
It basically means “bringing into line” or “making the same” or basically “conditional alteration.” It became general in use during the early thirties as a means for the Nazi party to eliminate the concept of individualism in favor of thinking and action for the common support for the party. Typical of socialist doctrine the importance of each person was downplayed to elevate the Nazis as an organization and their goals. The word described the movement toward “group think.”
One of the anticipated aims was the marshaling and coordination of the youth in separate groups arranged by age and gender in progressively older units. Each group passed the fundamentals up the line as the children aged. The emphasis became more serious with each and the end product was either a worker or a soldier.
Knowledge of this propaganda structure has contributed to my outrage at the attempts so popularized on YouTube to play mind games with innocent children. To watch kindergartners (another German compound word--child’s garden) being inculcated with a praise song for an incompetent president is a step too far. Our educators have too many failures in the teaching of the basics for them to be wasting time on acting as the propaganda arm for the White House.
During my two years in Europe, I attended many parades. Each community celebrated local events and nationally recognized holidays with marching citizens. What set them apart was that as each occupational group came by they wore identical uniforms related to their organization. The coal miners wore black with shiny brass buttons and buckles, the medical types wore the traditional whites, the postal workers wore green and on it went.. The conclusion came to mind that they were uniform happy. In the passing years I have come to recognize that they were simply reluctant to give up the old habits of maintaining their group identity.
As I joined the gazillion marchers in the 9/12 parade down Pennsylvania Avenue in D.C. I made a note that no two people were identically attired. Each person chose his own outfit and in so doing, expressed his individualism quite firmly. Some better than others I might add. There were no “boiler plate” signs advertising a specific grievance. Even the chants were largely unsuccessful because they had not practiced a uniform message in advance. Each person came in protest to an individual grievance accompanied by the insistence to do it his way. By so doing, this eclectic mass of humanity very effectively gained unanimity of purpose that they could have achieved no other way. In contrast, observe ACORN or SEIU in a public demonstration with easily identified T-shirts and signage.
Although not rare in other countries there is no place in the world which celebrates individualism universally like the United States. If you doubt this I suggest you attend a school board meeting, a church building committee meeting, or just about any occasion where two or more are gathered for just about any purpose. We want to be heard and have our ideas considered. Miraculously, we manage to function like this and often obtain superior results. As Americans, we are quite accustomed to listening to others, drawing our own conclusions, making our case, participating in the decision making process, and implementing what the group decides. It all started in the first town hall meeting and continues to this day.
We do not require a 14 letter word which describes brain washing our youth and others to reach successful goals and worthwhile ends. If we are wrong-headed, someone will point it out. We still retain the right to be mistaken. I am grateful that somebody remembered it and brought it to the fore. It epitomizes everything which most of us find so offensive about the current administration. We are not and never will be robots shuffling along waiting to do our masters bidding. 1984 came and went without the predicted consequences. Let’s keep it that way.

Monday Morning Rant 111
Although Lee Parsons was missing from church this morning, Brother Ray Wells filled in as a most effective representative of Jesus Christ. It may have to do with his 35 years in the pulpit. He pointed out a verse, Exodus 10:3, the last sentence of which is an oft quoted line offered most frequently in part and usurped by the civil rights movement: “Let my people go.” It was spoken by God to Pharaoh and as usual, not completely stated. It is actually: “Let my people go, that they may serve me.” The absence of the last five words completely corrupts the intent of God Almighty. Here lies the evil inherent in quotation of partial scripture without the supporting story contained in the entire chapter.
As brother Wells remarked: “keep in mind that some people will only be exposed to the Bible by that which we as individual believers offer them.” It is a treat to hear a fire breathing preacher to remind of us our shortcomings, procrastination and the necessity of a full embrace of the word of God.
Racism Explained to Morons
By all accounts from the left, your host at Zion Beckons is a racist. By their definition, if one decries a socialist/Marxist takeover of the government—you are a racist. By their definition if you oppose the dismantling of the Bill of Rights—you are a racist. In their warped minds if you seek to protect the federal treasury from the robbers on the left—you are a racist. If you are willing to fight for “Old Glory,” its tradition and all it represents—you are a racist. If you disapprove of the underhanded tactics used by ACORN and the NEA—you are a racist. If you disavow any respect for acknowledged criminals in high seats of government—you are a racist. If you are unwilling to “go along to get along”—you are a racist.
This does little to encourage freedom loving, noble people of color, to engage in politics for the enhancement of American values and traditions. Branding resistance to the vile policies of the new administration as racism is not only ignorant but also shames the sacrifice of thousands of Americans of all colors who fought tirelessly to achieve racial parity in our country throughout our history. We are clearly identified in the Pledge of Allegiance as “one people, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.” To hurl racist epithets at those who themselves fought this battle and whose ancestors struggled to achieve those ends is unconscionable. It is also par for the course for those who currently occupy the seats of power in Washington, D.C.
If we are indeed a racist society; how come we don’t see endless protests from Chinese, Koreans, Hmongs, Japanese, Pacific Islanders, and the perpetual parade of Europeans and Africans who have sought refuge on these golden shores over the decades? What treasure do they see in American citizenship which transcends their individual racial loyalties? What other country has been peopled by so many varieties of immigrants seeking freedom, prosperity and the right to worship as they please? The short answer is—none.
Our current accusations of the racism of our people are not so much a cry for freedom as an industry for those who would take unfair advantage of our sensitivities. The race-baiters are in truth the self-aggrandizing, opportunistic, America haters who would seek to destroy the greatest country in the world by the tactics of division among its people. They would supplant our sacred founding documents, which emphasize the will of the individual, with a collective ukase to enable a governmental system which disrespects every principle which informed Americans hold dear.
This insane desire to inflict uncivil rights on our people is a travesty which the administration has taken few steps to disavow. The left portrays Obama as an object of racism but rarely identifies his actual racial component. In fact, his lineage is 50% white Irish, 43.75% Arab, and 6.25% black African. This is hardly the picture painted by the media and his supporters. Perhaps they could verify the mix by checking his birth certificate—oh, I forgot, he doesn’t have one. What a farce!
CAIR comes to D.C.
We may now observe the reward offered to those who have sworn to destroy our country and have taken nearly 3,000 in the process on 9/11/01. Even after countless attempts to duplicate that atrocity, and some successful outrages here and world wide, our government has taken a “forgive and forget” attitude and invited the “spiritual” faction to the mall for a prayer meeting. In a city full of those who would remove all vestiges of Christianity and Judaism from any and all public view, we find those who have discovered tolerance for anything Muslim in full hypocritical mode.
Their very presence insults every principle which Americans hold dear. Forgiveness is an established necessity for salvation but it must also be followed immediately by repentance. This often overlooked component is an absolute requirement. Shame on a government which does not understand these fundamental needs.
Wait, There’s More!
That’s what the pitchmen say just before they double the order for $19.95 and only charge you for additional shipping and handling ($73.50.) In a vain effort to federalize your health care system, Democrats are crafting better sounding and more visibly effective versions of the health care legislation. Most are even worse than the original but are put forth in a brand new wrapper of control to inflict on those citizens who aren’t really paying attention.
I don’t choose to advertise the phony efforts and celebrate the sponsors of these bills. Each is still clouded by the lack of transparency in this administration. The meme is “believe what I say and not what I do.” They all have one thing in common: you will wind up paying an exorbitant price for a lesser service.
As conservatives we are often accused of having objections without any specific plan for improvement. I disagree. For starters, pass legislation which deals with current failures in our health care system. Rein in the trial lawyers, allow commerce in health insurance across state lines, eliminate costly regulatory practice and return control of every aspect of medical and insurance practice to the individual states. Further, require that every person with direct control of possible government influence be required to participate in and live by whatever onerous decisions are made. We will realize the sincerity of our leaders when they have to live (or die) with their own legislation and stop feeding at the public trough.
And finally
It’s nearly October and it’s time for the hunt. Here in Missouri, we are in the midst of bow season. Game is protected on our acreage and we are favored by an excessive presence of deer on the property. How do they know that we mean them no harm? It’s not that we disapprove of hunting but rather we enjoy, selfishly, the joys of seeing deer on the property; bears, skunks, and armadillos—not so much. It’s also fun to watch the dogs go nuts when they spot them out the window grazing in the front yard.
Apparently the gold finches sense an unpleasant fall for they have apparently departed for a warmer clime. The cardinals and nuthatches remain, greedily enjoying having the feeders to themselves. I am reminded of a friend in Arizona who wanted a leg up on the coming winter and consulted an old Apache neighbor on his uncanny ability to predict the severity of the coming season. When questioned he replied, “If white man stack much wood on porch, we have bad winter.”

The left portrays Obama as an object of racism but rarely identifies his actual racial component. In fact, his lineage is 50% white Irish, 43.75% Arab, and 6.25% black African. This is hardly the picture painted by the media and his supporters. Perhaps they could verify the mix by checking his birth certificate—oh, I forgot, he doesn’t have one. What a farce!
CAIR comes to D.C.
We may now observe the reward offered to those who have sworn to destroy our country and have taken nearly 3,000 in the process on 9/11/01. Even after countless attempts to duplicate that atrocity, and some successful outrages here and world wide, our government has taken a “forgive and forget” attitude and invited the “spiritual” faction to the mall for a prayer meeting. In a city full of those who would remove all vestiges of Christianity and Judaism from any and all public view, we find those who have discovered tolerance for anything Muslim in full hypocritical mode.
Their very presence insults every principle which Americans hold dear. Forgiveness is an established necessity for salvation but it must also be followed immediately by repentance. This often overlooked component is an absolute requirement. Shame on a government which does not understand these fundamental needs.
Wait, There’s More!
That’s what the pitchmen say just before they double the order for $19.95 and only charge you for additional shipping and handling ($73.50.) In a vain effort to federalize your health care system, Democrats are crafting better sounding and more visibly effective versions of the health care legislation. Most are even worse than the original but are put forth in a brand new wrapper of control to inflict on those citizens who aren’t really paying attention.
I don’t choose to advertise the phony efforts and celebrate the sponsors of these bills. Each is still clouded by the lack of transparency in this administration. The meme is “believe what I say and not what I do.” They all have one thing in common: you will wind up paying an exorbitant price for a lesser service.
As conservatives we are often accused of having objections without any specific plan for improvement. I disagree. For starters, pass legislation which deals with current failures in our health care system. Rein in the trial lawyers, allow commerce in health insurance across state lines, eliminate costly regulatory practice and return control of every aspect of medical and insurance practice to the individual states. Further, require that every person with direct control of possible government influence be required to participate in and live by whatever onerous decisions are made. We will realize the sincerity of our leaders when they have to live (or die) with their own legislation and stop feeding at the public trough.
And finally
It’s nearly October and it’s time for the hunt. Here in Missouri, we are in the midst of bow season. Game is protected on our acreage and we are favored by an excessive presence of deer on the property. How do they know that we mean them no harm? It’s not that we disapprove of hunting but rather we enjoy, selfishly, the joys of seeing deer on the property; bears, skunks, and armadillos—not so much. It’s also fun to watch the dogs go nuts when they spot them out the window grazing in the front yard.
Apparently the gold finches sense an unpleasant fall for they have apparently departed for a warmer clime. The cardinals and nuthatches remain, greedily enjoying having the feeders to themselves. I am reminded of a friend in Arizona who wanted a leg up on the coming winter and consulted an old Apache neighbor on his uncanny ability to predict the severity of the coming season. When questioned he replied, “If white man stack much wood on porch, we have bad winter.”

Random Thoughts on the Current Mess
It should be obvious by now that the current administration although in complete disarray is still striving to reinstate their original objectives of the dissolution of the United States. Always unhappy with the country, its history, and its place on the world scene, they appear quite disgusted with a citizenry who balks at “hope and change.” This would be amusing if it were not for the danger posed to our nation by this ineffectual crowd who are in charge.
Once their methodology of “slam, bam, thank you ma’am” legislative policy was exposed, they have been in a state of pique. The constant tendency to rush bills through congress without posting, careful reading by the representatives, or sharing an accurate impending result with the American people now has nearly everyone alert to the practice. Some of them imply, and sometimes actually aver, that voters do not have the superior intellect required to read the bills and understand them. Since it is obvious that our legislators don’t bother to read them, I must conclude that they lack that intellect as well. It is a well known fact that most of these are written by self-interested lobbying groups and not the representatives proposing them and it is not surprising.
It took eleven years to find agreement among the founders of the republic on the contents of the constitution. In that process, much was offered and tons more was rejected. The result was a concise, clear document with their intentions simply stated as to those issues with which the federal government could NOT take action. These men were well acquainted with the potential for abuse by federal authority. They were extremely careful not to abuse the status of the individual sovereignty of the states.
Today, for example, even though I think it foolish, I respect the right of Massachusetts to require mandatory H1N1 vaccinations. If various states wish to abjure from the Defense of Marriage for their citizens, it is their right as sovereign states. In fact, just about any damn fool bill they wish to propose is OK with me so long as it does not run afoul of legitimate constitutional sanctions or if it is in Missouri. Only as a citizen of the “show me” state does it becomes a matter of rightful concern to me. Recently, in observation of the Washington power grab, several states have passed legislation re-asserting their sovereignty to my great delight. If those in congress don’t understand that principle, these bills should serve as a reminder to them.
As further evidence of their confused state, we find the crass actions of NGO’s and non-profits under the gun for their complicity in illegal and immoral activities. We are by now all aware of the exposure by citizen journalists of ACORN which has received tens of millions in federal assistance to maintain their nefarious practices in contravention of the law. In addition, we see the National Endowment for the Arts turned into a propaganda arm of the administration to further their desire to elevate the presidential persona in the minds of the public. Each of them demonstrated an arrogant disregard of any semblance of propriety and blatantly endorsed illicit activity beyond purposeful advancement of any noble cause.
The framers well understood the necessity of requiring “advise and consent” of the senate to confirm or deny employment of high government officials. Those who have the power over the people through regulations of individual areas of responsibility need to be investigated, examined and then confirmed once that body is convinced that they have the interests of the public well in mind, The possibility of overregulation and additional taxation always exists in any federal seat of power. The appointment of a “czar” is contrary to the dictates of the constitution and unjustifiable regardless of the party in the office of the president. It appears that they now serve little purpose other than to continue to provide an extremely crowded condition “under the bus.”
A recent photo montage of the president posing with attendees at a conference underline the possibility he may indeed be a robot. With no variance in his overall position and the automatic smile, we see him in identical postures in each picture. For one who has likened him to the “Manchurian Candidate,” I found this not just disturbing but also evidence that my fears were not unfounded. People who make puppets observe the necessity to wire the jaw in such a manner that a variety of facial expressions are possible. In his case, the final template for joy, fear, displeasure and serious thought each sometimes appear to be identically programmed into the model for public appearance. None seem truly genuine and that is probably why puppet shows amuse children and bore adults.
The title of this post refers to a “current mess.” I admit that this is a highly subjective call. With solid evidence mounting with each passing day that we are headed down the road to socialism and eventual dictatorship—they go hand in hand—we find a growing constituency of responsible adults in our society coming to that conclusion. Even across party lines is an undercurrent of discontent with the ham-fisted attempt to remake America. I truly believe that there are enough people in both parties who recognize this usurpation of power by the executive branch to finally register resistance. Many are motivated by local interests who are offended by this or that piece of legislation. Some others actually see the immorality in the destruction of the republic.
If ever the United States needed the humble prayers of its citizens it is now. God offered to spare Sodom if a number of righteous men could be found within its walls. Lacking that, He promised absolute destruction. The time has come to put petty differences aside and join in an effort to show the Almighty that we are indeed worthy of salvation.

Complete Idiots
I have long been suspicious of employers who use the presence or lack of a college degree as a knock out factor in hiring practices. The reasons for this are many. I would understand the reason if one were hiring a nuclear physicist, a biologist, or just about any medical practitioner. To use the assumption that one is assured a well educated, well versed, and historically astute job candidate in many other fields is ridiculous. I am grateful to Steven Crowder for shedding some light on the absolute ignorance which he encountered on a college campus.
This is the video he assembled at the University of California (Berkeley) that ask students some questions about aspects of current and historical American life which my readers learned in elementary and high school. You must see this even though it is embarrassing to watch these morons fumble, mumble and parrot the false teaching which they have received. If this represents the future of our country, we are in serious trouble. I would truly like to believe these folks will learn the folly of some of their responses to his questions as they further their education. I would also sometimes like to believe in Santa Claus, the Easter bunny and the tooth fairy.
I fully realize that UC Berkely is one of the most far left campus environments in the nation. I would be much more comfortable if I thought that they were singular in their politicizing of every aspect of life from a warped socialist perspective. They are not. They are joined by most of the roster of America's so-called "fine" universities to one extreme or another. Why any responsible parent would allow his children to be subjected to this political mumbo-jumbo is a mystery to me. Further, why any kid would go on the hook for the price of a house and a car for the privilege of being socially indoctrinated is also a puzzle. This is a scam of epic proportions.
If they can produce one research scientist who comes up with a lifesaving cure for some dread disease, does that allow them to over-indoctrinate hundreds of others to a governmental system which will result in the deaths of millions? In the long run, it would be better to teach them to properly articulate, "Do you want fries with that?" When I attended the University of Colorado back in the early sixties, the Principles of Retailing 304 prof asked for a ten letter word with no repeated letters which could be readily used as a letter-numeric code for price tags. I quickly responded, "REPUBLICAN." Better, I had responded with an expletive. The general response was groans and moans and shock that I would use the word in a public place. In fairness, I was also managing one of Boulder's premier furniture stores at the time and we coded cost prices using that very system.That anecdote is now about 47 years old and the situation has gotten worse and not better.
While watching Crowder's video, I hope you become imbued with alarm and a desire to intrude into the lives of anyone who is subject to the brainwashing on today's college campuses.

Monday Morning Rant 110
Just about the time we become convinced that all the problems of the world come from Washington, NATO, the barrio, Africa, or Detroit, we are painfully reminded that God always has the upper hand in all matters. It is my belief that yesterday, He played His hand to remind us that He is in charge and we continue to have to deal with natural occurrences. As I kissed my bride at the door as she left for work at 2 pm, we both noted the start of a rainfall which continued until midnight. Over four inches later it became evident we had an epic flood on our hands.
Repeated wee hour phone calls resulted in advice to her to find a spot, crawl in the back of the Explorer, and take advantage of the bed, luckily, lazily or providentially, still there after the D.C. trip. Our nearest neighbor is the Spring River and although only about a normal 20’-25’ in width as it flows near our house, it has a potential to expand to a half mile wide raging torrent. She parked at the church and came in about 6 am.
Meanwhile, the satellite internet and the TV and, intermittently, the electric service were down. It was almost like God said, “OK, I’ve given you all those toys so now let’s see how well you can play without them.” I shall defer to Him for any judgment on how that turned out. Life has now returned to its normal chaotic state and all is well.
(UPDATE: The rain resumed, it is now Tuesday am, and, we have an additional 2 inches and the incumbent problems remain. We shall do our best to get this posted.)
A Normal Interval
We have had, in the life of the republic, many noble presidents. We have also had bad ones, lazy ones, quiet ones, boisterous ones, smart ones, and unfortunately, more than a a few dumb ones. On rare occasions we have had few who have shown questionable understanding of actual intent which has been damaging to the union. In the last century, we can readily point to four individuals who can easily be categorized as such.
When men pursue a path of governance in direct contravention of the intent of those brave and noble men who hammered out our sacred documents of incorporation, I believe it is wise to point them out. I do not favor the myth that they were all great and selfless men at heart. That is elementary school pap distributed to engender respect for the office regardless who holds it. Those observations apply to those I have seen first hand with one exception—Woodrow Wilson.
In his 8 year term (1913-1921) amid ingenuous cries of “keeping us out of war,” engineering the Federal Reserve, and as an architect of the League of Nations, he did little for the concept of national sovereignty. Since the world of behind the scenes cabals had not gained currency, he masked his pacific attitudes with claims of a Quaker heritage. No doubt, had he not suffered a stroke in October 1919, we would have seen further efforts to emasculate our country. As it turned out, he collected his Nobel Prize and turned governance over to his wife and doctors.
Eight years later, our country was slowly emerging from the devastation of a depression and looking for a scapegoat. Franklin D. Roosevelt replaced Hoover as president and the country depressed even further. With the public mesmerized by his autocratic speaking style, he rammed proposal after proposal through congress which did little to alleviate the national malaise and cost a bundle to implement. In fact our conditions actually worsened. Finally, with inappropriate provocation, we entered WWII and its subsequent full employment and economic progress to trade the depression for the loss of millions of men crippled and killed in the effort. The formative stages of the United Nations occured in the later years of his term. He died of cerebral palsy before he could get his Nobel and it would be 32 years before we saw such a disaster again.
That disaster came in the person of Jimmy Carter. Like Wilson, Carter wrapped himself in his self-righteous religious associations and charged forth to forward his personal anti-Semitic views, social contructs, peanut farmer homilies and cowardly diplomacy to actively seek the destruction of the country of the framers. With crippling interest rates and economic crisis around every corner, he was the epitome of failure as a leader. He treated the UN as a benevolent older brother rather than the threat to our national sovereignty it has always been. He had to wait until 2002 to be recognized for the de riquere Nobel award.
Now, 28 years have passed and we have a new candidate for the Wall of Shame for US presidents. Our current executive has stepped up federalism and international aqiescence to a completely new level. Capriciously breaking international agreements, wasting the contents of the treasury like a drunken sailor, attempting to garner federal control over every aspect of the citizen’s lives and misunderstanding the military have become the hallmarks of his administration. In a scant eight months, his socialistic bent has been thoroughly exposed. His ability to read well from the printed and telepromptered page, plus being a laughing stock in any extemporaneous effort, has been well exposed but has served as the cover for his radical ideas. So far, we have heard of no effort to provide the mandatory Nobel but it is certain that it will eventually come up.
The isolation of these presidents serves us only as the confirmation that periodically, the country is in a condition that is susceptible to a radical change in our style of governance. Lyndon Johnson, the father of the “Great Society” would have been on the list except for his conscientious abhorrence of the responsibilities of waging the Viet Nam war and hating the inevitable outcome. I am convinced he genuinely felt the pain of that effort and the futility of an exercise directed by others. I think a he was disappointment to some one or some group by not being a ruthless manipulator.
If I could identify who or what directs these puppets, my life and those around me would not be worth a plug nickel—nor, would yours. I simply find it interesting that every decade or so we seem to elect someone who does the bidding of an unidentified international entity which they would otherwise not be prepared to do. Back in the fifties, the late, Sen. Joseph McCarthy discovered a cabal of socialists (Communists?) and managed to make a lot of people very angry. For all the criticism leveled by revisionist historians, we find that he was a drunk, an upstart, a vicious questioner, and most important, he was right. In subsequent years his investigations have been proven correct over and over again.
The only defense against an absolute takeover of this country lies not in the hallowed halls of Washington, D.C... It lies in the hearts and minds of its citizens if they are willing to become involved with their government. If they are able to stay informed, think, and understand what the founders had in their minds and hearts when they created the ingenious documents which have served us so well. We must all understand clearly the constitution states what the federal government may NOT do. They also need not fall for that which is offered when it is “too good to be true.” In other words, do not believe what I write or say: investigate for your self. Become convinced I am a fool because you have done the research, read the documents, and engaged in meaningful discussions. We need always remember that humans come and go; it’s those pesky ideas which remain for the future. Until then—beware.
And Finally
I think my birds have deserted me. Since I returned, my only visitor has been a lone cardinal at the feeder. When I returned, the dogs went nuts—for about 38 seconds—and then went back to sleep. My bride’s enthusiasm lasted slightly longer. The cats are still cats. It’s good to be the king.

Lyndon Johnson, the father of the “Great Society” would have been on the list except for his conscientious abhorrence of the responsibilities of waging the Viet Nam war and hating the inevitable outcome. I am convinced he genuinely felt the pain of that effort and the futility of an exercise directed by others. I think a he was disappointment to some one or some group by not being a ruthless manipulator.
If I could identify who or what directs these puppets, my life and those around me would not be worth a plug nickel—nor, would yours. I simply find it interesting that every decade or so we seem to elect someone who does the bidding of an unidentified international entity which they would otherwise not be prepared to do. Back in the fifties, the late, Sen. Joseph McCarthy discovered a cabal of socialists (Communists?) and managed to make a lot of people very angry. For all the criticism leveled by revisionist historians, we find that he was a drunk, an upstart, a vicious questioner, and most important, he was right. In subsequent years his investigations have been proven correct over and over again.
The only defense against an absolute takeover of this country lies not in the hallowed halls of Washington, D.C... It lies in the hearts and minds of its citizens if they are willing to become involved with their government. If they are able to stay informed, think, and understand what the founders had in their minds and hearts when they created the ingenious documents which have served us so well. We must all understand clearly the constitution states what the federal government may NOT do. They also need not fall for that which is offered when it is “too good to be true.” In other words, do not believe what I write or say: investigate for your self. Become convinced I am a fool because you have done the research, read the documents, and engaged in meaningful discussions. We need always remember that humans come and go; it’s those pesky ideas which remain for the future. Until then—beware.
And Finally
I think my birds have deserted me. Since I returned, my only visitor has been a lone cardinal at the feeder. When I returned, the dogs went nuts—for about 38 seconds—and then went back to sleep. My bride’s enthusiasm lasted slightly longer. The cats are still cats. It’s good to be the king.
